I love my clients! It's always gratifying and humbling to hear what they have to say about the work we do together—I only wish I could give them their own testimonials in return (say the word, folks, I'll be happy to!).

Jess Shulman is one of the best, most competent, and talented editors I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. She is meticulous, knowledgeable, thorough, and gracious. I feel so fortunate to have had her work on my manuscript and I know the book will be so much better for having had her genius editing skills applied to it.

Jess, you have done such a WONDERFUL job. I cannot thank you enough for what you’ve done for this manuscript and therefore, for me! Honestly, you have no idea how thrilled I am to have had you fixing so many things for me. You’re a genius editor! And so polite about it all too. So, thank you, thank you, thank you!
— Lindy Mechefske, author of Walk, Eat, Repeat: Culinary Adventures on the Camino de Santiago
Jess’s comments, questions, and edits brought clarity to my manuscript’s intent and meaning. Her keen editorial eye is both whetstone and mirror. You’ll see your work in a whole new light, and see how to make it sharper.
— Cian Cruise, author of Dad Bod: Portraits of Pop Culture Papas
I am simply over the moon with your manuscript evaluation, Jess. It was so encouraging to read your work. And I appreciate the way you deliver your comments. It left me feeling positive about my writing. I can’t wait to get my writing teeth back into my manuscript now. Honestly, I am at a loss for words with respect to your work. We’ve only just started and already, I feel that I’ve learned so much. Thank you for all your work. I feel grateful to have found a thoughtful and diligent editor.
— Zoe Pike, author
I can’t thank you enough for the time and effort you put into my work. I found your thoughts, suggestions, and changes to be invaluable to my learning process and, in some cases, inspirational!
— Keith McBain, YA fantasy author
Jess, I am over the moon - you are soooo good! Thanks to you more people are actually going to read this someday, maybe even to the end. I am absolutely tickled.
— Hubert Weinfurter, memoir author

Jess Shulman is an extraordinary editor—everything a writer dreams of and wants. She handled my extremely complex manuscript on the globalization of food cultures—in four languages: English, of course, but also many words and phrases in French, Italian and Chinese. Jess is attentive to detail, flow, context and logic. She made a couple of my jokes even better, saved me from a tasteless gaffe or two, and fixed numerous errors of fact and grammar. She is a joy to work with, a true collaborator who is respectful, tactful, gentle, and articulate, and who meets every deadline. I highly recommend her.
— Jan Wong, author of Apron Strings: Navigating Food and Family in France, Italy, and China
After reading Jess Shulman’s bio on the Editors Canada website, I was convinced that I was hiring a well qualified professional. My first contract with Jess was for a manuscript evaluation. She read my draft and gave me several useful suggestions about how to improve what I had written. Most recently, she completed the stylistic and copy editing of my revised manuscript. This line-by-line edit of my work resulted in the correction of a myriad of mechanical errors and the tightening up of my prose. Jess also verified the spelling of names and locations, eliminating several mistakes. Jess met all deadlines, and she responded thoroughly and clearly to my questions. I am now confident that my manuscript is ready for the next phase of publication. I highly recommend Jess Shulman and thank her for being the professional editor I needed for my book project.
— Patricia Gostick, author of McClelland Barclay: Painter of Beautiful Women and More
There is nothing like a professional editor to help you with your work.
As an agent-represented published author, I require hefty amounts of editing myself. Sometimes we’re just too close to our work to see its shortcomings. An editor’s eye can take it to the next level.
I highly respect and adore my editor, Jess Shulman. She makes my books next-level EVERY TIME.
— Kristine Scarrow, author of The Gamer's Guide to Getting the Girl and The 11th Hour

The authors have embraced your corrections almost entirely! You won their trust with your reasonable approach, and countless students will benefit as a result. Thank you again for all of the work you put into this—clearly it was worth it!
— Eric Sinkins, Senior Development Editor, Oxford University Press (re: Microelectronic Circuits by Sedra & Smith, 8th edition)
Jess Shulman is the editor writers dream of finding. Her X-ray vision revealed the hidden weaknesses in my storyline and helped me zero in on elements I’d overlooked which, when addressed, made my book that much richer. On top of all that, she’s fun to work with, too!
— Jeffrey Round, author of The God Game, Shadow Puppet, and Lion's Head Revisited; Lambda Award–winning author and two-time ReLit Award nominee for literature and poetry

Thank you so much for your superb copy editing of my book. I gave you what I was sure was a very clean manuscript, but you found and corrected dozens and dozens of errors, inconsistencies and other problems, large and small. I was especially impressed with your careful editing of the endnotes, which were very complex and required strict adherence to the Chicago Manual of Style.

Where there was more than one possible way to fix a problem, you identified that and clearly explained what you recommended and why. On top of that, you completed the project on time and on budget!

Your work was everything I could have asked for and more: the result is a manuscript that I am proud to send to my publisher. I have included thanks to you in the acknowledgements. If you ever need a recommendation I will be glad to give you five stars, and I will certainly use Jess Shulman Editorial again.
— Ian Angus, author of A Redder Shade of Green

Jess is an extraordinary professional editor who did an outstanding job of editing my upcoming book on autonomous vehicles. Not only did she correct the grammar, the syntax and the awkward style of my manuscript (which I expected her to do), she also improved the structure of sentences to make them more clear to readers. She improved the flow of my ideas and ensured consistency. She ensured that the finished material did not show an engineer’s writing style. She also helped me a great deal in citations and references when I used content from other sources.

She made a lot of suggestions to improve my manuscript. She even critiqued my ideas if I did not provide supporting evidence. She ensured that I explained technical terms so that readers would not find it difficult to understand. She moved paragraphs around to ensure that the flow was smooth. She even validated my conclusions by doing independent research on occasion. She understands both technical and business issues.

All in all, I made an excellent decision to ask Jess to edit my book. I recommend her for whenever the quality of your writing matters. She is really thorough in her work.
— Chander Dhawan, author of Autonomous Vehicles Plus
Thank you for your consummate patience and professionalism on this project. It dragged on and on (through no fault of yours!), but you stuck with it, kept things on track, and left the client happy. I couldn’t ask for more.
— Martin Ainsley, Production Editor, Goose Lane Editions
Special kudos to Jess—this is one of the best editing/proofreading jobs I’ve ever seen.
— Paul Bien, Director of Insights, Deloitte Canada
Jess is an exceptional writer, and the very best editor I have ever worked with—by far. She is wicked-smart, has great integrity, and is a strong leader and a strong project manager.
